5-5-20 wedc secretary goes “between the lines”

The secretary of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says she is concerned about the future of hundreds of small businesses across the state.  “Very concerned,”  WEDC secretary Melissa Hughes told WFDL news.   “It’s devastating not only for the business owners but also for the employees.”   Hughes  says she is hopeful the state will be able to meet the criteria outlined in the governor’s Badger Bounce Back plan to reopen the economy when the Safer at Home order expires May 26.  “We’re working as hard as we can to have those criteria met and this is a day by day fight,”  Hughes said.   “The governor is committed to gaining momentum in the economy and making sure we are taking steps forward.”   Meanwhile, Hughes says the state continues to seek resources to support businesses and to deploy resources thoughtfully and with the best impact.   Meanwhile, Hughes says she is supportive of the Fond du Lac Task Force that is working to plan for when the economy is reopened.
