Fond du Lac Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt has a stark message for residents of the 52nd Assembly District…”The coronavirus will have to run it’s course and people will continue to get sick and die until a vaccine is found.” Thiesfeldt says at some point the virus will take it’s toll and he says the question is will health care facilities be prepared for that? Theisfeldt supports reopening the state’s economy now and says we’re not going to end the virus by waiting for May 26, June 26 or December 1. “It’s going to cause sickness and it’s going to cause death and that’s a very sad thing, and I empathize with the families who had to go through this, but it is something that is inevitably going to have to take place as we go forward,” Thiesfeldt told WFDL news. At the same time Thiesfeldt says he believes this initial wave of the pandemic is coming to an end. “We’re coming out of the worst of the pandemic. It’s been pretty clear,” Thiesfeldt said. “…but the thing is that was never the intent. The intent was, from the beginning, to slow it down so that our health care facilities would be prepared for that.” Thiesfeldt says along the way there was a shift but it was never defined “what it was going to take to get the state back on a path to normalcy.” Thiesfeldt says while he was fully supportive of flattening the curve, he says “you can’t outrun a virus.” Thiesfeldt and other Republican lawmakers argue that the state Department of Health Services secretary exceeded her authority when she extended the Safer at Home Order to May 26. The state Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the legality of the order earlier this week.
