A candidate for state superintendent says she pledges to focus on making sure that every child has every opportunity in schools across the state. Pecatonica Area School District superintendent Dr. Jill Underly announced last week that she is running for state superintendent of Public Instruction. “I have the experience, I know I could do a good job,” Underly told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. “I see first hand the good work our public schools, our teachers do every day. I want every kid to be successful.” She has served as superintendent for Pecatonica since 2015. Prior to that she was an assistant director at the state Department of Public Instruction, an academic advisor at UW-Madison and a high school teacher. Meanwhile, Underly says she is concerned that freezing or cutting education spending amid the coronavirus budget fallout, would be the wrong move. Voters will choose the next state superintendent in an April 2021 general election.
