For the first time all Fond du Lac School District students grades 4K through eighth grade will advance to the next grade level for next school year. In a letter to parents superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says during this unprecedented time of virtual learning, 4K through eighth grade teachers have focused on providing feedback, not grades. As a result Sebert says there will not be a final report card for students grades K-5. “Grading is certainly not essential to elementary school but feedback is,” Sebert told WFDL news. Sebert says middle school students will get the grade they had in the third quarter assuming they continued to work with their teacher and progressed. High School students will have the option of taking the grades they are getting or a pass or fail grade for the second semester. “Seniors will have to make that determination by the end of May if they would like to go pass-fail,” Sebert said. Teachers have been instructing students online since the governor issued his order closing schools in March. Meanwhile, Sebert says last week an anonymous donor provided hundreds of free pizzas at the school district’s lunch sites for students. “They worked with three of our local companies, Bob’s, Eaton’s and Philly’s,” Sebert said. “…to get 900 frozen pizzas ready. That day we gave out 14 hundred lunches and 900 pizzas at a rapid rate. We’re really grateful.”
