5-27-20 landmark fdl restaurant closing

An iconic Fond du Lac restaurant is closing it’s doors.   WFDL news has learned that Schreiner’s restaurant in Fond du Lac is closing after more than 80 years in business.   When the Safer at Home order was issued a couple months ago Schreiner’s was offering curbside take-out on Fridays only.   Schreiners has been a fixture in Fond du Lac since it was founded in 1938,   opening as ‘The Grill” ,  at the intersection of Main and Johnson Streets.    In 1940 the restaurant moved to South Main Street, and opened in it’s  current location at the intersection of Interstate 41 and Highway 23 in 1971.   Known for it’s comfort food, Schreiners was a popular stop for travelers along the Interstate.    In recent years Schreiners had cut back its hours and was open only  for breakfast and lunch.  Schreiner’s general manager Nathan Haupt declined to comment at this time, but said the restaurant would be issuing a press release in the future.
