Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says he wants to send a message to Fond du Lac County residents…the actions of the Minneapolis police officers involved in the death of George Floyd is sickening, unacceptable and not the way law enforcement acts in Fond du Lac County. Waldschmidt says that’s why he decided to participate in a peace walk Sunday to show solidarity. Waldschmidt says he became physically ill after watching the video of the Minneapolis police officer pinning Floyd to the ground with his knee. “I don’t do this often, you can’t rush to judgement in use of force situations but in this situation I watched that video and I literally became ill, I mean sick to my stomach,” Waldschmidt told WFDL news. Fond du Lac assistant police chief Steve Klein says the video is upsetting. “I haven’t talked with a law enforcement officer yet that didn’t cringe in utter disbelief on what they were seeing,” Klein said. “I don’t think anybody that would watch that video would come away with any other conclusion.” Klein says he believes Fond du Lac police have built a good trust relationship with the black community in Fond du Lac. Klein says while the focus now officers involved in the death of George Floyd , he says most law enforcement officers do the right thing.
