Despite protests from some Fond du Lac residents the city of Fond du Lac is recognizing the LGBTQ community. City council president Brian Kolstad read a proclamation at Wednesday night’s council meeting proclaiming June as LGBTQ Pride month. Before the proclamation was read the council listened to dozens of people speak both in favor and against the proclamation. A motion by councilmember Dan Degner to table the proclamation died for lack of a second. Degner says the proclamation is political, partisan and divisive. Tracy Abler is the president of United for Diversity Fond du Lac. Abler says it’s about “accepting people for who they are.”
