The Fond du Lac Fire Chief says the tragic drowning of a Fond du Lac man shows how dangerous and deceptive the fast-moving current in the Fond du Lac River can be. A 37 year old Fond du Lac man drowned last Thursday evening when he tried to swim across the river near the Johnson Street bridge. Fire chief Pete O’Leary says he thinks a lot of people underestimate the power of the current in the Fond du Lac River. “People don’t know the body of water. They think on the surface it doesn’t look that bad, but it certainly is something you don’t want to underestimate and you need to respect it,” O’Leary told WFDL news.
