7-15-20 wedc economic impact report

The secretary of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says it’s up to residents to make sure Wisconsin doesn’t go backward like other states that reopened early during the pandemic.   WEDC released a report last week assessing the ongoing economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.   WEDC secretary Missy Hughes says tourism, retail and service businesses were hit the hardest, while manufacturing and construction saw less immediate disruption.  The report calls for the state to focus on three priorities, getting people back to work,  fixing  broadband and supporting innovation.  Hughes says how the state addresses the crisis of racial disparity and inequality will also determine the state’s  economic  future.  Hughes was a guest on AM 1170s Between the Lines program.
