The Fond du Lac city council president says he’s not surprised at a growing opposition to develop a portion of Lakeside Park. Efforts are underway on several fronts by residents who are opposed to building a restaurant near the lighthouse and an amphitheater and parking lot on Oven Island. Council president Brian Kolstad says he thinks there were always people concerned about the plan. “”I think there was always a concern about this,” Kolstad told WFDL news. “When we discussed this badck in February I was cautious about proceeding with it. I felt at the time it was worth considering looking at the different options that were presented and getting more feedback from the public.” “I voted in opposition, but the council voted to proceed with the plan as proposed. I wanted more time.” Meanwhile, Kolstad says he is specifically hearing growing opposition to a restaurant and history museum on the lighthouse peninsula.
