7-29-20 fdl advisory park board recommends referendum on lakeside park alternate plan

The Fond du Lac Advisory Park Board is recommending the city council vote on placing the alternate Lakeside Park Master Plan up for a public referendum.  The board made the recommendation at their meeting Monday night.  The board also recommended the council halt spending any money to renovate the pavilion at the park until a feasibility study is completed.  Amy Schingen is a member of the Facebook group opposed to development at the park.  “I am ecstatic,”  Schingen told WFDL news.  “I am so excited.  This is just a huge win.”   Schingen says she feels the momentum is on the side of the residents who are opposed to commercial development of the park.   Councilmember Ben Giles, who has spearheaded the alternate master plan says he’s not in favor of a referendum.  “People on the council are elected to represent and make decisions for those that elect them,”  Giles told WFDL news.   Giles says he’s also not in favor of halting renovation of the pavilion at this point.  The alternate plan includes a restaurant on the lighthouse peninsula and amphitheater on Oven Island.  The plan is supported by a group of business leaders who have pledged money toward the project.
