Area health officials are reacting with concern after a large gathering was held in Winnebago County last weekend. Images of a large crowd, without masks, drinking and wading in shallow water on Lake Butte des Morts began circulating on social media. The Sandbar Bash was held Saturday on the lake. The Winnebago County Health Department encouraged anyone who attended the event to monitor for symptoms. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says news of the event is frustrating. Mueller she anticipates that there could end up being COVID-19 cases in Fond du Lac County as a result. “COVID doesn’t know boundaries and that gathering that took place, I’m sure there were lots of Fond du Lac County folks that were up there,” Mueller told WFDL news. “My hope is we don’t see cases from it but I’m guessing that would be unlikely.”
