A renovation project involving the existing Lakeside Park pavilion is moving forward after the Fond du Lac city council decided against voting on a resolution to halt the project at their meeting Wednesday night. A motion by councilmember Kay Miller to approve the resolution to delay the project until a feasibility study is completed died for lack of a second. The city could start receiving bids on the project as early as next week. The project is part of an alternate plan proposed by a group of business leaders that includes a restaurant on the lighthouse peninsula and amphitheater on Oven Island. The council did not take action on an Advisory Park Board recommendation to put that question to a public referendum. Dozens of residents, wearing facemasks, spoke at last night’s council meeting for and against the resolution. Opponents of the plan presented the council with a petition signed by more than four thousand people in opposition to building on the lighthouse peninsula.
