A group opposed to commercial development at Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park is gathering signatures to place direct legislation on next April’s ballot that would force a referendum for any development on the lighthouse peninsula or Oven Island. The group is opposed to an alternate park master plan that calls for a restaurant on the lighthouse peninsula and amphitheater on Oven Island. Petition organizer John Papenheim says he’s confident the group will be able to gather the necessary signatures to put the question on the April ballot. The group gathered signatures on Oven Island Friday evening.
