A Fond du Lac man has reached the halfway point in his cross country run to raise money and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. Emery’s Thunder Run is in honor of Peter Halper’s grandniece, who died nearly three years ago from Neuroblastoma. Halper says 75 percent of the money raised is going to the organization Beat Childhood Cancer. Halper started the more than 3,000 mile long journey in July in Dana Point, California. He says running through the heat of the Mohave Desert was particularly challenging. Halper says he is averaging about 28 miles a day, resting on Sunday and is in Missouri this week. He is scheduled to finish his run in Deleware sometime in November.
