The Fond du Lac city council has approved a binding agreement for a Lakeside Park alternate master plan. The council approved the agreement at a special meeting Wednesday night. Councilmember Kay Miller was the only councilmember to vote against the agreement. Miller says the council has been “listening to the donors not the citizens” and says the city “may now end up in litigation and no one will win.” Councilmember Donna Richards voted in favor. “It would be nice to know that this is the end of the acrimony and the beginning of a wonderful project,” Richards told WFDL news. Miller says the decision is fiscally irresponsible to the taxpayers and goes against the council’s pledge to wait until the feasibility study is completed. Richards says the council couldn’t wait for the study to be completed or the donors would have walked. The agreement commits the city to having a restaurant built on the lighthouse peninsula and amphitheater on Oven Island. The donors have pledged at least $5.2 millon. The agreement commits the city to the same amount.
