The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer says the state’s approach to testing the COVID-19 positivy rate is accurate and the preferred method of calculating the rate. Kim Mueller was responding to a report from the conservative MacIver Institute that argued a fundamental flaw in how the state calculates the daily positive test rate was driving the recent explosion in that rate. The report asserts the state should be basing the calculation off the raw number tests. Wisconsin divides the number of people with positive tests by the number of people tested. “These positive cases are positive cases,” Mueller told WFDL news. “They’ve had a test, they’ve had symptoms, they’re waiting for their results.” Mueller says tallying people tested rather than raw tests prevents people who are tested often, such as a front-line health care worker, from ske wing the data.
