10-13-20 economic stimulus package

With president Trump’s decision to end negotiations on a new economic aid package, Democrats and Republicans will battle over who is to blame with the election just a few weeks away.   The president announced last week he ending negotiations, because the House Speaker was  not negotiating in good faith, and that a major stimulus bill would be passed after he wins re-election.   Retired Ripon College economist Paul Schoofs says negotiations have stalled with millions out of work due to the pandemic.   Republicans have argued that Democrats are asking for too much money, while Democrats have held firm.  Schoofs points out that the Federal Reserve chairman even made a rare plea to congress for more stimulus, warning of widespread layoffs and economic despair without further relief.
