10-14-20 wisconsin tourism secretary-designee says state grants badly needed

The Wisconsin Tourism secretary-designee says a new round of grants targeting the state’s tourism industry is badly needed for businesses hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.   Sarah Meaney says the state was looking forward to a potential record year with events like the Ryder Cup and Democratic National Convention, and then the pandemic struck.  “It has certainly been a challenge like none other,” Meaney told WFDL news.  Meaney says while it’s impossible for the grant money to replace everything that was lossed, she says it is an important acknowledgment of how important tourism is to the state’s economy.  The governor last week announced grants for the state’s hotel industry, live music and performance
venues, movie theaters and non-profit cultural  venues.
