Republican congressman Glenn Grothman says he thinks Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett will be confirmed and will make a good justice. Grothman says he hopes she’s a judge who respects the constitution. Responding to Democrats’ concerns that the selection should wait until after the election, just as Republicans complained when former president Obama nominated Merrick Garland before the 2016 election. “I think there’s not a lot of precedent for that. There’s precedent when you have a president who is a different party then the senate. There’s precedent for not approving that judge right away. But there’s not a lot of precedent where a judge is appointed by a president who is the same party as the senate. You could say it’s playing hardball, I don’t know,” Grothman told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. Barring a dramatic development, Republicans appear to have the votes to confirm Barrett.
