The Fond du Lac County Clerk says she supports allowing local election clerks to count mail-in ballots ahead of election day. Thirty four states allow election officials to begin processing absentee ballots prior to election day. In Fond du Lac County, Clerk Lisa Freiberg, says the ballots will be entered in alphabetic order. In Wisconsin absentee ballots can be tabulated during the day. Just 16 states allow for officials to begin counting ballots before election day. Freiberg says that would certainly make it easier for poll workers. Freiberg says counting absentee ballots before election day would speed up the results on election night.
