A retired Ripon College economist says while the latest unemployment numbers are good news they don’t tell the whole story. The Fond du Lac County jobless rate fell to 3.5 percent in September… nearly where it was at 3.4 percent in February before the pandemic hit. Economist Paul Schoofs says don’t read too much into the latest numbers. He says declining unemployment rates are masking signs of a labor market deterioration. Schoofs says the longer people are out of the labor force the more difficult it will be for them to find jobs when the economy improves.
