The investigation into a wildfire that destroyed more than 30 acres of mostly wetland in southeast Fond du Lac County remains under investigation. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says a witness reported seeing a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway just before the fire started. “We certainly think that person who stopped had something to do with it,” Waldschmidt told WFDL news. “…whether that was someone who intentionally started the fire or if it was somebody that maybe was dumping an ashtray or had a charcoal grill going and dumped the charcoals in the ditch thinking it would be okay we’re not sure.” The fire burned approximately 30 to 40 acres near County Highway W north of Sunset Lane in the town of Osceola. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office or Campbellsport Fire Department.
