11-9-20 hit and run suspect in custody

An eight year old Fond du Lac boy received serious, but what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries,  after being struck by a hit and run driver.  The incident happened Friday afternoon in the area of the Richard and Son’s Bakery parking lot on Forest Avenue.  According to witnesses, a  car was traveling through the parking lot and accelerated as it was moving toward a group of boys walking  through the parking lot.  One of the boys was struck and the car fled the scene.   The child was flown by helicopter to Children’s hospital in Milwaukee with a head injury and other contusions.  The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.   The suspect failed to stop for an officer in the area of Ninth and Linden Street and a pursuit  ensued.  The suspect was later spotted southbound on Highway 151 near Beaver Dam.   The vehicle ran over spike strips that had been placed on the highway and crashed.  The driver, a 49 year old Fond du Lac man,  was taken into custody.   The investigation is ongoing.
