With Thanksgiving right around the corner Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue wants residents to know the potential dangers of deep frying a turkey. Fire chief Pete O’Leary says between 2014 and 2016 there were 2,400 residential fires caused by misuse of turkey fryers. O’Leary says the number one problem people make is frying a turkey in too much oil and letting the oil get too hot. O’Leary says turkey fryers can easily tip over spilling hot oil over a large area. A partially frozen turkey will cause hot oil to splatter, and turkey fryers can easily overheat and start a fire.
