Republican congressman Glenn Grothman says he’s concerned another massive coronavirus economic stimulus package may do more harm than good to the economy in the long run. Bipartisan lawmakers unveiled a 908 billion proposal this week aimed at curbing economic damage from the pandemic. It does not include another $1200 direct payment to most Americans, something Grothman says was not necessary. Grothman says he would support helping businesses that have been struggling soley because of the pandemic. “Not just to keep the economy going but out of fairness to a business. Let’s say you’re a restaurant and you’re restricted to 25 percent of you’re capacity, shouldn’t the government make you whole?” Grothman told WFDL news. The proposal includes $288 billion in small business aid such as Paycheck Protection program loans, $160 billion in state and local government relief and $180 billlion to fund a supplemental unemployment benefit through March.
