WFDL news has learned that one candidate who has taken out nomination papers to run for Fond du Lac city council is a convicted felon and not eligible to run for public office. Rodney Emerson is one of 11 people who are circulating papers to collect signatures to run for three open seats on the council in the spring election. Emerson has three felony drug convictions dating back to 2004 along with a 2017 conviction for criminal damage to property, a misdemeanor. City Attorney Deb Hoffman says according to state statute a person is not eligible to serve in public office if they have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony that violates the public trust.
