Nobody was injured in a garage fire in Fond du Lac County. Firefighters were called to the Burt and Alysia Steffes home on Rienzi Road Sunday evening. The fire began in a garbage can, which contained ash from a wood burning fire place, then spread to a portion of a detached garage before it was extinguished through a combined effort of the homeowners, a passerby, and fire department officials. The fire was contained to a small portion of the garage and no items of value inside the garage were destroyed. A pickup truck that was parked outside, next to the garbage can, sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported during the incident and the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
