The senate majority leader says his proposal that would allow clerks to count absentee ballots a day before election day would help give voters confidence in the election process. Senate Republican leader Devin Lemahieu says allowing for earlier counting of ballots is one of his priorities in 2021. Lamahieu says there was confusion and conspiracy theories after the general election when it took so long to count absentee ballots in places like Milwaukee and Dane counties. LeMahieu says the other thing that makes Wisconsin’s elections secure in Wisconsin is that the voting systems are so decentralized.
