A psychiatrist and licensed nurse from Fond du Lac face up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine if convicted of illegally distributing controlled substances. The U.S. Attorney’s Eastern District of Wisconsin office says a federal grand jury issued the indictment against 74 year old psychiatrist John Whelan, and 58 year old nurse Tina Montezon. According to the indictment, the pair prescribed controlled substances outside their professional practice from a home in Fond du Lac. The prescriptions were given in exchange for $200 to $300 per prescription. The indictment also charges Whelan and Montezon with maintaining a drug-involved premises and making false statements to federal agents. The case was investigated by Drug Enforcement Administration and Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group.
