The Fond du Lac County executive says he’s concerned about the impact of Fond du Lac losing it’s metro status. The federal government is proposing to downgrade 144 cities from the metropolitan statistical designation including Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac County executive Al Buechel says he believes the MSA designation has helped Fond du Lac attract business and industry over the years. “Anything positive you can promote from the county always helps,” Buechel told WFDL news. “I think when businesses look at those communities across the country they do go for these statistical areas, MSAs. You just have more credibility,” Buechel said. Buechel says he’s concerned that competition between the new micropolitan areas for federal dollars will be even greater.
