The chairman of the Assembly Education committee says he hasn’t made up his mind on whether starting school early next school year is something he would support. Governor Tony Evers has floated the idea of starting school before September 1 as a way for students to catch up after a year of virtual learning during the pandemic. Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt of Fond du Lac says there has been a learning gap that has taken place, and recovering that gap will take time. Thiesfeldt says his concern about starting school early is the businesses that depend on student-employment during the summer months. Thiesfeldt says certainly the current circumstances “raise the ante” on this.
