Fond du Lac firefighters quickly extinguished a fire on the roof of a Fond du Lac house Saturday afternoon apparently started by an illegal firework before it caused significant damage. The resident saw smoke coming from the roof of the house at 479 West Scott Street and dialed 911. The resident told investigators they believe people were shooting off fireworks, and that started the fire. Police checked the area and did not find anyone using fireworks. FDLFR reminds residents not only are fireworks illegal, they are very dangerous during dry weather, windy weather conditions. “Embers from a simple bottle rocket are enough to ignite a house or dry vegetation,” Fire Chief Peter O’Leary said. At the time of the fire, firefighters were also called to a report of a transformer fire and a person stuck in an elevator.
