A Fond du Lac County man is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a domestic incident and subsequent brief standoff with sheriff’s deputies. Shortly after midnight Sunday morning deputies responded to a home in the town of Taycheeda for a report of an argument between a man and woman that involved a firearm. While interviewing the woman, deputies conducted a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle near the intersection of CTH WH and CTH W and found the suspect hiding in the trunk of the vehicle. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says the suspect brandished a firearm and deputies attempted to negotiate with the subject for several minutes before he sustained a self-inflicted a gunshot wound. He was transported to a regional trauma center where he later died. The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and is currently conducting an independent agency investigation into the events that took place during the traffic stop.
