4-13-21 telecommunicator’s week

Dispatchers in Fond du Lac County, and across the state and nation are being recognized this week for their hard work and dedication.  This week is Public Safety Telecommunicator’s Week.   Fond du Lac County Communications director, and former dispatcher, Bobbie Hicken, says on average the Fond du Lac County Dispatch Center receives over 350 administrative calls and 75 911 calls daily.  “You have to have a major ability to deal with stress,”  Hicken told WFDL news.  “I always explain dispatching as you share everybody’s worst day ever, and then you hang up and do it all over again.”   The Fond du Lac County Communications Center serves 17 fire departments, five ambulances services, 10 first responder groups and nine law enforcement agencies.
