4-15-21 severe weather awareness week

This is severe weather awareness week in Wisconsin, but unlike previous years there will not be any activations of tornado drills, and the outdoor warning sirens will not sound in Fond du Lac County.  Emergency management director Bobbie Hicken says the concern is that sounding the sirens during a drill could lead to confusion and distrust in the system.   Hicken says while there will not be an activation trigger, it does not lessen the importance of being prepared for severe weather.  Hicken recommends at  1:45pm and 6:435pm Thursday everyone practice your severe weather plans.  Hicken says this is the time of year when weather patterns are changing and the likelihood of severe weather, including thunderstorms, tornadoes and flooding can occur. Information on severe weather preparedness can be found on line at readywisconsin.wi.gov.
