Two Republican lawmakers have introduced a bill to increase the value of Wisconsin agriculture exports. State senator Joan Ballweg of Markesan and state representative Tony Kurtz have introduced the agriculture and agribusiness export program. The program would require the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to create a plan and achieve export objectives by June 30th, 2026. Ballweg says Wisconsin is in the top ten states for agricultural production, but only in the second tier for exports, so there are opportunities for growth. The bill goes beyond what governor Tony Evers has included in his budget proposal by including other Wisconsin exports like cranberries, ginseng and bovine genetics.
