The former Fond du Lac city council president says his final meeting last week was bittersweet. Brian Kolstad was not able to run for re-election this year because of term limits, and last Wednesday’s council meeting marked his final meeting after three terms. “It’s been a big part of my life for the last six years and it’s something I’ll carry with me for a long time, the rest of my life I think,” Kolstad told WFDL news. Kolstad says the council has faced a lot of decision that have been unpopular with a big portion of the public, specifically Lakeside Park. “It really is one of those situations where whatever you decide somebody might be upset what that decision is,” Kolstad said. “…but we worked through it and tried to find those compromises where we can and try to find the best solutions, best answers that reflect the intent of at least the majority of the public.” Looking back, Kolstad says he thinks the process regarding the alternate park plan could have been handled better.
