The Fond du Lac Police Chief says justice has been served with the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd. A jury this week found Chauvin guilty of murder and manslaughter. Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb says that’s the outcome he was expecting. “I think it’s clear that Mr. Chauvin’s actions led to the death of Mr. Floyd and I believe he (Chauvin) had to be held accountable for his actions,” Lamb told WFDL news. “Obviously the jury viewed the matter the same way and that’s the verdict they returned. Justice in this case has been served and that accountability will be served when Mr. Chauvin is sentenced in a few weeks.” Lamb says he doesn’t know what Chauvin was thinking or why other officers who were there didn’t try to step in and override what Chauvin was doing. Lamb says there is obviously a strained relationship between law enforcement and people of color and the nation has to continue to work to repair that. Lamb says there has to be a greater premium placed on law enforcement agencies hiring good people. building relationships and trust in all segments of the community, and treating all people with the utmost dignity and respect.
