5-4-21 brownsville man at oneida casino when gunman opened fire

A Brownsville resident was having a good time with friends at the Oneida Casino Saturday night when a gunman shot and killed two people in the adjacent restaurant before police killed him.   Max Westphal says at first he thought there may have been a fire when they were told to evacuate, but that quickly changed when they got outside.   Westphal says he saw police running into the parking structure with assault rifles, and less than a minute later heard heard 20 to 30 gunshots.  Westphal says it all happened so fast there was little time to react, but they knew they had to get away quickly.  Westphal says while he is sad for the victims and their families in a strange way it was a relief to learn that the shooter was targeting someone, and that it wasn’t a random act of violence.
