A restaurant will not be built near the Fond du Lac Lakeside Park Lighthouse. The Fond du Lac city council voted Wednesday night to terminate a contract with a business group that had pledged millions of dollars to build the restaurant but was unwilling to compromise on moving the location of the building off the Lighthouse Point. City manager Joe Moore says he’s not sure what the potential financial implications are for the city, but told the council the short term impact with be “catastrophic” in terms of the city’s relationship with the business group. Moore says the resolution essentially cancels an alternate master plan as the city council decides how to move forward. The council voted to meet in a workshop as a Committee of the Whole to discuss the next steps. Supporters of the restaurant argued a restaurant would help attract people to the community. Opponents said it would disrupt the peace and tranquility of the park.
