Fond du Lac County officials are planning now for an expansion of the county jail that could still be five or ten years down the road. The county finance committee met in closed session Tuesday afternoon to discuss the possible purchase of land for a future jail expansion. County executive Al Buechel says architect and jail inspector recommendations say it may be easier to expand at another location instead of the existing site. Buechel says projections in 2005 estimated a jail expansion would be necessary by 2025. Buechel says the jail inspector has identified some serious challenges with remodeling on the existing site.
