The Fond du Lac city council is in support of the city of Fond du lac joining an effort to lobby for bringing passenger rail service to the area. City manager Joe Moore says the city would join other Fox Valley municipalities in communicating with Amtrak and the state’s congressional delegataion to indicate support for expanding passenger rail from Milwaukee through Fond du lac to Green Bay. A sample letter from the municipalities to the congressional delegation states strong support for modernizing and expanding Midwest passenger rail through investments in the FAST Act reauthorization and the American Jobs Plan. Moore says the potential economic impact would be significant…pointing to Columbus as an example. “It certainly benefits greatly from people who travel to that city for no other reason than access to the train or picking somebody up,” Moore told WFDL news. “They’re going to restaurants, they’re getting gas. That is a great benefit and we would expect to see the same.” Moore says there is also the convenience factor. “You would be able to go from here to Chicago, maybe get an Uber ride from your house to the (train) station and go whereever you want on Amtrak.”
