The Waupun Fire Chief says it’s fortunate a town of Waupun family was still awake and noticed a fire before it had a chance to spread. Firefighters were called to the David and Paulette Smit home on Lori Lane around 11pm Sunday. Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says it appears the fire had been smoldering for some time, when it was first discovered before the family went to bed. DeMaa says if the family had been sleeping there may have been a different outcome. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical. The damage was contained to the attic and kitchen area.
