The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is cracking down on impaired boating this holiday weekend. The Sheriff’s Office is participating in the annual Operation Dry Water campaign, a coordinated campaign, to educate boaters about the dangers of boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Fond du Lac Co Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol/Rescue Coordinator Lieutenant Chris Dobyns says during the heightened awareness and enforcement weekend, boaters will see an increase in outreach, education and enforcement surrounding boating under the influence. The mission of Operation Dry Water is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related incidents and fatalities on the water. Wisconsin statistics for 2019 indicate that 254 citations were issued for alcohol violations involving boaters across the state. More than 80 reportable boat incidents were investigated resulting in 50 people injured and nine fatalities across the state.
