A more than year long effort to develop a portion of Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park, including building a restaurant at the park with the help of donations from the business community is over. The Fond du Lac city council has approved a negotiated settlement with the business group Lakeside Forward after the council earlier backed out of an enhancement agreement with the group. Six councilmembers voted in favor, with councilmember Ben Giles abstaining. The settlement calls for the city to pay Lakeside Forward a little more than $377,000 and avoids litigation. City manager Joe Moore says he believes one of the lessons to be learned is that the public considers Lakeside Park hallowed ground. Moore says another lesson is that people have said they want to feel like they are involved in the process.
