7-16-21 oakfield tornado anniversary

This Sunday marks 25 years since the biggest tornado in Wisconsin history touched down in the village of Oakfield.  It was July 18, 1996 when an EF-5 tornado cut a half-mile wide swath through the village, destroying dozens of homes, causing over $40 million in damage.  But miraculously nobody was injured.   This Sunday the village is holding a 25th anniversary celebration, with part of the UW Marching band performing in a parade through town.  Bars and restaurants are running specials, and churches impacted by the tornado are holding open houses and services.   There will be also be an ice cream social.
