AAA projects 47 million Americans plan to travel for the Independence Day holiday.  State AAA spokesman Nick Jarmusz says that’s a 40 percent increase from last year , yet just 2.5 percent fewer than the 2019 holiday.  Over a million Wisconsinites are forecasted to take a trip during the holiday weekend, the second-most on record.  Jarmusz says motorists will see higher prices at the gas pump.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Ousted Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales did not return to his job on Saturday as per a court order. Morales retired in August after the city's police commission demoted him following turmoil over racial justice protests and complaints of distrust within the police department. PLOVER, Wis. (AP) — Painters are scrambling to fix a giant typo on the village of Plover's water tower. The Stevens Point Journal reports that crews repainting the tower on Thursday misspelled the village's name as “Plvoer.” Village Administrator Dan Mahoney said the painters accidentally reversed the templates used to paint the letters before raising them up to the tower. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican legislative leaders are asking the state Supreme Court to invalidate a Madison judge's ruling that they illegally hired private taxpayer-funded attorneys to represent them in anticipation of legal challenges over redistricting. 7-3-21 fire causes significant damage to dodge county home

Two firefighters received minor injuries in a fire that destroyed a Dodge County residence.    Firefighters from 20 departments battled the blaze Thursday evening at a home at 320 Mill Street in the Village of Lowell.   Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says nobody was home at the time of the fire that caused significant damage to the house.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

7-2-21 fdl school board adopts optional mask policy

The Fond du Lac School Board has adopted a mask optional policy.  The board voted unanimously in favor of making masks optional District-wide at a special meeting Thursday evening.  School Board president Mark Jurgella says new superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fleig supports making masks optional.  The policy will go into effect immediately.
