The Fond du Lac interim police chief is asking for prayers for a Fond du Lac police officer who is hospitalized with COVID-19. Interim police chief Aaron Goldstein told WFDL news that an officer is hospitalized with the virus. “We do have one police officer diagnosed with COVID and has had complications from the disease and has been hospitalized,” Goldstein told WFDL news. “I’m in constant communication with the department member’s family and what I would say is anytime there is a hospitalization thoughts and prayers are a great way to go.” Goldstein says the city does not provide details on specific employees’ medical conditions out of the respect for their privacy and their family’s privacy. Sources told WFDL news the 26 year old officer was hospitalized at St. Agnes Hospital last week and was later transferred to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee. Goldstein says his department has been hit hard this summer by COVID-19. He says the numbers were low to start the summer with a resurgence of cases by the end of July. “This is across all three divisions, a number of members, by COVID or COVID-type symptoms. We had approximately ten members impacted by COVID or the symptoms,” Goldstein said. Meanwhile , now that full authorization has been given for the Pfizer vaccine, Goldstein says discussions are taking place about possible mandatory vaccines for the police department, but he says no final decisions have been made at this time.
