A Beaver Dam man convicted in connection with a fatal drug-related car crash more than two years ago is going to prison. Dodge County judge Martin De Vries has sentenced 36 year old Dustin Vandergailen to 21 and a half years in prison and 19 years extended supervision. Earlier this year Vandergailen pled no contest to multiple charges including Homicide by Vehicle –Use of Controlled Substance 2nd or subsequent offense. According to a criminal complaint Vandergailen was attempting to pass a vehicle on County Road E, when he collided with one car and struck another head on, killing a passenger and injuring several others. Investigators say Vandergailen was high on cocaine and had also been drinking prior to the crash. Vandergailen has two previous convictions for Operating While Intoxicated.
